Dr Donald Macaskill expresses grave concern about the limitations of short visits by home care staff.

This is a hard hitting discussion about home care. It recognises that home care workers are not resourced to spend very long at the person’s house providing care. It also refers to the limited amount of public money that is available.

Discussion of this issue has been going on for a long time. A survey of care workers undertaken by Unison in 2016 highlighted the problems.

The national guidance and advice for health and social care in England, NICE, said in 2016 that home care visits should last for a minimum of 30 minutes, except when short visits were agreed for specific tasks. One assumes getting someone up, washed and dressed is not such a task.
